The first two of these three services are offered for free--or, nearly so, depending on how strict one may be regarding the meaning of the term free: they are free services, in the sense that they charge no money for what they provide.
In exchange for the free submission, nonetheless, you are requested to place, on Your Home Page, a link to the Site providing that free service.
It could thus be said that, in a way, you "pay" for the next two services below, by complying with the request of a link on Your Home Page.
(Pls. note that DreamSubmit, above, and HitTracker, below, make no such request.)
Now, if, on the one hand, a request of this order may indicate a somewhat tainted use of the term free (a use not at all uncommon on the Net and beyond, these days), on the other hand, that request of a link, in "payment" for the otherwise free service is fair enough: Without visitors, a Web Site has hardly any motivation to exist, whilst it really costs us little to place one extra link on our Web Pages.
